Sophie Starts Nursery School
Well it was Sophie's first day of Nursery school today. With mixed emotion we walked to the school in exactly 7 minutes and waited 15 minutes for it to open. Her bag full of extra clothes, new "inside" shoes, and an apple to share at snack time, she seemed completely ready and confident. The teacher asked me to stay an hour for transition which was fine. She was a bit clingy but doing okay. When it was time for me to go she turned to a little girl beside her and said, "my mom is leaving now!" She actually seemed excited. I, of course, wept as I was walking down the street, having left my baby at school for the first time. Apparently Sophie was not as excited for me to leave as it seemed. The school called me after 45 minutes and said that she seemed tired and was probably done for the day. Right back over to the Nursery as soon as I could and she ran to me like I had been gone for days. I was told this is completely normal and each child reacts differently to the detachment. We will try again on Wednesday but for a "planned" shorter day. Oh the joys of parenthood...
