Chamber Orchestra for Tots and a Round Church

There are so many great things to do with children in London! On this day, Sophie and I traveled into the city to attend a Chamber Tots class at Wigmore Hall. A friend had recommended the class to us so we thought we would try it out. Young performers from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama present these popular music and movement sessions for toddlers. They have a short concert (which we actually missed! we were sent to the room where the remainder of the session was held and had no idea we were missing anything, thankfully we are going again next month!) followed by a music-making workshop, with opportunities to see the instruments, explore rhythm and sound, sing and play percussion instruments. A bargain at 6 pounds. Sophie learned all about the flute, piccolo, chello, and violin. They even let the kids pluck the strings a bit after the class was over. It was a huge class of around 30 kids plus adults and it gets sold out every class so I was glad we got in and have another session in November and one in December. Very cool! Sophie said to me halfway through the class "this is fun!" She loves music, so I'm glad she enjoyed it.

On our walk back to tube I saw a church that is on my list to visit so we popped in to see it. The All Souls Langham Place is an interesting unique looking round church which was designed by John Nash in 1824. When it was first built the spire was ridiculed as it appeared too slender and flimsy. The inside of the church is plain, but very bright, clean, and modern looking, huge white columns and some gold ornamental detail. The organ is huge and gorgeous.

The Sherlock Holmes Museum is in the same area, as well as another church I want to see, so we will check those out on our future visits to Wigmore Hall.
