A play at Shakepeare's Globe

Today we actually had a babysitter while we went to see Antony & Cleopatra with some friends at Shakespeare's Globe. The Theatre is on the banks of the Thames in the Southwark/Bankside area of London. It is a reconstruction of the original Elizabethan theatre where many of Shakespeares plays were first performed. The wooden, circular structure is open in the middle, leaving some of the audience exposed to the elements. Those holding seat tickets have a roof over their heads, we were seat ticket holders thankfully! In the era of Queen Elizabeth the rich theatre goers would watch the play from the gallery was where we sat. Those that were standing in front of the stage were rained on for two of the three hours at the show! Many stayed for the entire show--diehards!
Antony & Cleopatra was a fantastic show. I am not a Shakespeare buff so it was a bit hard to follow some of it, but the costumes were great and the acting very good. It had good reviews. Overall, it was an interesting experience that we were glad to have had.
