When Irish eyes are smiling...
Well we took our final trip to Dublin, Ireland this weekend. We had a good time, but we were more mellow than usual, we are a bit "citied out". Really we should have rented a car and cruised into the country side, but this would have required too much planning ahead which did not happen.
We arrived in Dublin on Thursday night, missing one piece of our luggage, the piece which contained all our clothes, including Jeremy's suit for work the next day, and our toiletries. Nice! But at least the airline knew that it had been left in London. So we didn't start out on the best foot...
Friday arrives and Jeremy heads off to work in jeans and a button-down shirt, thank god he didn't wear shorts on the plane! Sophie and I headed to the zoo. The trip to and from the zoo could not have been more of a disaster! We enjoyed the zoo, though we did get rained on several times and of course I was overly optimistic and left the umbrella at the hotel on purpose! The idea of a hop-on/hop-off bus is a good one if you get on the right bus to take you to the right stop and if a stop exists, and if you are not on the open top bit when it rains, and there is a seat for you and your child each, and you actually get to hear the audio tour. AHHH!
Okay, Saturday has to be a better day right? Yes, it is. We spent the morning at the Guinness Storehouse. Jeremy had never been to a brewery before, I realized this was my 3rd tour of a brewery. I don't even like beer, something is wrong here...but anyway we enjoyed this. At the end of the tour, of course you get a free pint. Jeremy enjoyed, I tried too, but I just don't like beer. The views at the top of the Storehouse were unbelievable! You could see all over Dublin, fantastic! On the walk from here, Sophie fell asleep on her daddy's back...so we made our way to a park where Jeremy and Sophie took a little nap/rest while I walked by the St. Patrick's Church (the church of Ireland) and Christ Church to take some photographs. After naps we ate some lunch in the Temple Bar area and then turned our main mission into shopping in some of Dublin's infamous shopping areas, Gafton Street. My friend Jackie is Irish and had a wish list of items for us to buy for her, which we were successful in doing. Sophie got a traditional wool blanket which is gorgeous and a penny whistle. We also took a little stroll through the campus of Trinity College.
Sunday was spent with more walking around the city, shopping on Henry Street, spending time on the castle grounds and in the early afternoon taking a guided tour of the castle. The tour was interesting, and surprisingly better than we expected for 4.50 Euro. Sophie can nap anywhere and did so on my lap and the bench of an Italian restaurant where we had a late lunch. Hilarious!
Overall the trip was relaxing and enjoyable, a few downs, mostly ups, and it is always nice to not have to cook or clean. A little break from reality for us...now back to the moving to do list...
