Borough Market Gastrotour
I was thrilled that Jeremy was able to take a day off work to have a daddy-daughter day with Sophie so I could a day out for a tour of the Borough Market with the Hampstead Women's Club. I have been to the market several times but having an exclusive tour with Celia Brooks Brown, a food writer and chef added a different twist (she is also a vegetarian like myself). Celia started with an overview of the market at the Monmouth Coffee House. Next we headed to do some tastings which included cheese from Neal's Yard Creamery, the world's best brownie, some olive oils, salsa from the Cool Chile Co., Isle of Wight tomatoes, and some excellent parmesan cheese. My favorites and purchases included the brownie (of course), the oak roasted cherry tomatoes (to die for!), and parmesan cheese from two vendors (I love my cheese!). The second part of the tour was a wine tasting in the luxurious cellar of BedaleÂs. I loved the prosecco we had and bought a bottle of that, it may be my new favorite! Finally, the tour ended with a special tasting and talk at Brindisa Spanish Foods which imports the bestSpanishh foods under one roof. Overall the tour was an interesting experience with a terrific guide! The Borough Market is worth at least a quick visit while in London if not an extended visit with Celia! She also offers other Gastrotour's of the Portobello and Marylebone markets which I hope I can fit in at another time.
